1641 S Chicago Ave., Freeport, IL 61032
This Craftsman bungalow for sale is a brick beauty listed at just $24,900. Bungalows and foursquares have always had great floorplans and they translate well for today’s families who seem to crave open floorplans. Myself, I’m not into the overly done openness of modern homes. My daughter owned a gorgeous looking home in Las Vegas with cathedral ceilings and a balcony on the second floor overlooking half of the huge first floor. With three young children, this setup was loud and messy. I prefer a room set apart for toys, and a quiet space other than just a bedroom. Bungalows and foursquares are great alternatives. They have wide doorways and/or pocket doors between spacious rooms, high ceilings and kitchens that are not usually cut off from the main living area.
Don’t you love this 1927 bungalow’s wide porch and hardwood floors? You have to agree that the arched doorway, wall detailing, brick fireplace, window seat and glass-front built-ins are not features you find every day in a house at this price point. For me, the real show stopper of this home, however, and there are many, is the kitchen. Look at those original cupboards and hardware! You can see where someone started to sand the white paint off one of the cupboards. Just stunning! I don’t think you’ll find a better Craftsman bungalow for sale at this price anywhere. If you want a home in Illinois, consider this one with three bedrooms, one bath (with a fabulous tub), a sunroom, detached garage and a quarter of an acre.
