1652 Main St, Port Norris, NJ 08349
Reduced from $15,000 to $9,900
When I originally included this home on oldhousesunder50k.com back in July, it was going for $15,000, and I thought that was a deal. Now this South Jersey Victorian is going for just $9,900! Located on the mouth of the Maurice River, the village of about 1,500 residents was once a center of the oystering industry. We’ve visited the town several times in search of an old fixer upper for my son. Admittedly, it has fallen on hard times and many of the old homes are in shabby condition, but still there is a certain fishing village kind of charm about the place.
This 3-bedroom, 1-bath farmhouse needs a considerable amount of work, but the price is sure right. It features a beautiful carved wood staircase, hardwood floors, original doors and trim and a sunroom with beadboard ceiling. The attic looks great, and once you get rid of the dropped ceiling, the kitchen is spacious with plenty of space for upgraded cabinets and an island. I’m thinking it probably needs, among other things, a septic system, which can be quite an expense in New Jersey. If you’re looking for a cheap place in South Jersey, however, Port Norris seems to have more than its share of foreclosures.
