A few of my readers have requested I feature some farmhouses under $50,000 with acreage. That’s a tall order. I’m drawn to cheap homes with original features still intact, and that’s not usually the case when acreage is involved. This Tennessee farmhouse on five acres is a case in point. The century-old dwelling has an appealing exterior, but except for the hardwood floors, new metal roof and new wiring, the house is a gut special. Still, the land is absolutely beautiful. Plus, it’s surrounded by farmland and the seller says make an offer. So who’s up for some green acres and farm living?

This circa 1850 Vermont farmhouse has the best of both worlds ~ acreage AND a house with some original details! Plus, it boasts a trailer to live in while you restore the home. Imagine living on more than 10 acres in a dwelling than has been around for over 150 years! The three-bedroom, one-bath gem has a wrap-around porch, front door with sidelights hardwood floors, original trim and doors, original staircase and some great old kitchen cupboards, probably 1940 era, but nice.
As per the realtor:
“Good opportunity for a handy person–this house has good bones and a great price. Sitting on a nice 10-acre lot, it’s an excellent candidate for investment/renovation. Bonus: There’s a mobile home on the property–live in it while you work on the house, then rent it out! This is a Fannie Mae Homepath property.”
