NY Home With Acreage Under $80,000

So the home is close to the road, but that is the name of the game with old historic taverns. Built in 1838, this grand home was once the Clarks Corners Tavern. It also housed the town post office and a small store, both destroyed by fire in 1901. The post office was discontinued after that, but the store reopened with its first stock of groceries purchased for $25. Those were the days.

The Walrod family bought the estate in 1915 and have owned it ever since. Some changes have occurred over the years. Sadly, the second story veranda is gone, and in 1938, lightning hit the house, so renovations were made. It still stands proudly, though, with several original interior features and a gorgeous setting.

I hope they leave a few of those family portraits with the house. (We purchased our Cape May, NJ, home from the original family who had lived there 80 years. A portrait of Captain Sharp was in the basement when we toured the house, but the plumber snatched it before we moved in.) There’s a church pew in this estate’s garage that I have my eye on that you might want included with the deal, too.
