TN Greek Revival With Acreage Under $80,000

This 1838 Greek Revival stands majestically on a knoll surrounded by an acre of land. The photos are deceiving, however, so Google Map the neighborhood. On one side, the home is a stone’s throw from historic downtown Bolivar. The other side has some unattractive business properties.

But who can resist a Greek Revival? Look at those Ionic columns and the double front porches. I’d dress up as Baby Jane and wave to the passer’s by at Halloween. Its hardwood floors, original doors and trim, built-ins and six working fireplaces are in great condition, but why no photo of the staircase?

The home has quite a history behind it. Originally built as a log cabin, the house you see today served as temporary headquarters for Union General Lee Wallace, author of Ben Hur, and then used as a Civil War hospital. Apparently, there are blood stains on the second-floor balcony and wood floors that were never completely removed. See the complete history here, then check out Bolivar’s livability score ~ pretty dismal.
