Virginia Fixer Upper Under $50,000
Situated on a street of lovely older homes with views of the mountains, this circa 1850 home is a lot of house for the money. Covington is a quaint town with a wonderful national historic district. It lies in the western part of the state at the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley.
What I Like About This House
It’s not too often that you find a house in this price range, this age, where two front porches are in decent shape, and most of the exterior woodwork is still intact. I love the two front doors with sidelights, and the fretwork in the eaves, gable and porch railing. The stucco appears in good shape, too. Although painted, interior original doors, trim and fireplace mantels exist. One mantel even has green tile. The home also boasts hardwood floors, high ceilings, cast iron radiators and an antique bathtub. Check out Covington’s livability score here.
What I Like Less
Like I said above, I wish they hadn’t painted over the interior woodwork, particularly the mantel with the mirror. The kitchen is too small, especially with the awkward placement of the stove. Hopefully, there’s a wall that can be knocked down to enlarge the space. Also, the tree would have to be trimmed so as to showcase the beautiful front facade of the house.
