Historic Mississippi House Under $40,000

According to VisitClarkeCounty.com, this beauty is considered a Spindlework Mode of the Queen Anne style of architecture. I would have liked a photo of the staircase, but apparently some interior renovations have been done over the years, including the removal of the living room fireplace and an alteration of the staircase and its landing. It’s amazing, though, that the gorgeous wraparound two-story front porch still stands. Porches are usually one of the first original details to be remuddled. Despite some changes, the Captain’s house has largely been kept intact, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a tour of the neighborhood on Google Maps.

As Per VisitClarkeCounty.com

The house was originally constructed for Captain C.C. Ferrill but was purchased by the Kirkland family by 1910. The Kirkland’s were prominent business people in Quitman. The family resided here until the 1950’s. The house illustrates how the social and economic changes sweeping Clarke County at the turn of the century affected the community of Quitman.
