Family History

From the 1910s until the late 1940s, this was the home of Frederick John Dahmer (1879-1970). His parents emigrated from Batavia to the US. Fred married Myrtle Lancaster (1881-1946) in 1901.  He made his living as a blacksmith. He owned his own shop which later became a wood and iron works shop.  Fred and his wife raised their two sons here, Frederick and Julius. Fred and Myrtle owned the home free and clear and even were able to pay for Julian to graduate from the University of Texas. Julius served in the Air Force during World War II. He worked as a sales manager for KJAC television station in Port Arthur.
