427 S Hall St., Princeton, IN 47670
In honor of Earth Day, April 22nd, I will be featuring some old houses under $22,000 this weekend. Saving a house from the wrecking ball and landfill is a great way to save the Earth and our architectural heritage. This circa 1876 Greek Revival sits on an embankment on a lovely tree-lined street of older homes. (You should see the wonderful gingerbread cottage across the street!) The exterior looks great with mature trees and a long driveway that leads to the rear of the house. I think the home may be one of those “worse house on the best block” situations. That’s not to say that this charmer is in bad condition inside. I have seen way worse for a lot more money. It does, however, need sprucing up. I love the recessed front door with transom and sidelights, the large foyer and restorable staircase. Original interior doors and trim, a fabulous original mantel and a more modern stone fireplace add to the home’s appeal. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings.
Princeton is located in the southwest corner of Indiana. If it had been in the southeast corner of the state near my daughter, I might have seriously considered this one.
