The realtor lists this home as being built in 1940, but we sure know that’s not correct. Perhaps the addition was constructed in 1940, but the barn is dated 1908, and the side of the house, with its Greek Revival influence, tells me it more likely dates back to mid to late 1800s.
At any rate, note the stained glass, original woodwork, high ceilings, hardwood floors and built-ins. Then consider the home’s location. It’s situated on a rural road of older homes in an area loaded with outdoor recreation opportunities. Island Falls has a population of 847 that doubles in the summer, boasting two lakes that attract fishermen, boaters and kayakers. The town also has a golf course, ATV and snowmobiling trails and is a favorite with hunters and trappers.

Call me a fixer upper fanatic. My husband and I have owned and restored a 1910 Folk Victorian on Long Island, an 1880's farmhouse on 15 acres in Schoharie County, New York, and a 1915 American Foursquare in beautiful Cape May, New Jersey. We currently live part-time in Huntington Beach, California, and are working on our 1930 retirement bungalow in Indiana. Old houses touch our souls.
