The photo of the little girl blowing bubbles caught my fancy. It appears to have been taken in the 1930s. Notice the front porch. Why do people think it’s an improvement when they strip off the original details? If you Google Map the area, it is quite a lovely rural spot. I wish the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation had outlined what kind of work this one-of-a-kind home needs, but below is what they do say about the Stribling House.
“A truly unique home designed by one of the most innovative person SC produced, the Stribling Home is a series of six rooms radiating outward from a single domed octagon topped by a cupola. Two of these rooms are an elongated octagon, two are square shaped and two are rectangular shaped.
The house is situated on slightly wooded knoll on a 1.3 acre lot adjacent to several farms on a small two-lane road. It is within a mile of Hwy 123 and 5 minutes proximity to the modern conveniences of Big Box stores and national chain restaurants, 10 -15 minutes to some of the state’s most beautiful lakes, and only 20 minutes from Clemson University.”
