651 Broadway Street, Uniontown, AL
At first, I thought it must be a misprint. An historic brick colonial for $29,900 that looks like it came out of “Better Homes and Gardens?” Bill Mackey Real Estate says it’s true. Built in 1941, this 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath mini-mansion has a beautiful, landscaped yard, portico and grand front entrance. Inside, note the gorgeous center hall with wainscoting and stunning staircase (the perfect place for your family gallery of photos). Hardwood floors, amazing built-ins, tiled fireplace, original doors and trim, and take a gander at the kitchen sink! I don’t know what is wrong with the home. The realtor just states, “Priced to sell ‘as is’ as it needs repairs.” I’m thinking the real reason, however, for the low price is the area. After publishing this post and viewing this amazing house, my husband did some research on Uniontown. For such a small town, it sure does have it’s big problems. And I mean BIG.

Main Street, Hallwood, Virginia
Hallwood is a tiny hamlet on Virginia’s Delmarva Peninsula, one of our family’s favorite places to unwind. Can’t you smell the cookies baking in the kitchen and children running up the back staircase of this lovely old home, reminiscent of grandma’s house? The country kitchen is huge and sports a pantry and old enamel sink. Original doors and trim, a stunning front staircase, mantel, spacious sunny rooms, hardwood floors, French doors, beadboard walls…what more could you ask for? Oh, maybe a wrap-around porch, more than a half acre of land backed by open fields and a great price. You got it!
As per the realtor: Located at the heart of Hallwood, if you like to spit shine and spruce up, then this is the place for you. 1/2 hour to NASA and Wallops Island. Just over 1/2 acre with fields behind, wrap around porch covers three side and there’s even a ramp. The basement has sump pumps and an outside entrance to boot. This one is priced to sell. Such an adorable bungalow! Don’t you just love the stone pillars and enclosed front porch on this Syracuse foreclosure? Hardwood floors, a fireplace, French doors, great staircase and original room divider add to the 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath home’s appeal. If I had to pinpoint just two of its show-stopping features, I’d have to say the abundance of natural woodwork and the floor-to-ceiling kitchen cupboard are the wow factors.
As per Hunt Real Estate ERA: This is a Fannie Mae Homepath property! Lovely two-story home that is situated on a spacious and quiet lot. Detached garage area, perfect for storage! Upon entrance, gleaming hardwood floors greet you. Great open floor plan that allows lots of natural light to flow throughout! Located close to all your needed amenities!

825 Vine St., Saint Joseph, MO 64501
The interior of this Saint Joseph, Missouri, fixer upper has been totally gutted and is ready for restoration. Built in 1885, this Second Empire has a few interior details intact, including the staircase and some trim. The realtor claims it’s a potential 3-bedroom, 2-bath dwelling with a main floor laundry room. It’s the exterior of the home, however, that really draws you in. Look at the detail work around the doors and the bay window! And who can resist that Empire roof?

18 Cushman St., Augusta, ME 04330
This circa 1871 Augusta, Maine fixer upper has such curb appeal! Priced at just $35,100, the lovely Greek Revival home sits on a corner lot in a pleasant neighborhood of older homes. Don’t you just love the two bay windows, exterior trim, transom and door overhang? It features hardwood floors, a stunning staircase and a pantry! If you are into clawfoot tubs (I lived with two for 22 years, and can do without them now) this three-bedroom, 1.5-bath beauty has one. The real clincher for me is the carriage barn. I can see our family converting that into a guest cottage.

316 S Washington St., Clinton, KY 42031
Back in May I featured a Kentucky old house under $50,000 just down the road from this one. It was the same style of brick dwelling at 316 N. Washington Street. Like the previous home, this 1950 gem has a lot going for it. Four bedrooms, two full baths and one half bath make it ideal for a large family. Hardwood floors, wood burning fireplace with lovely mantel, arched doorway, lots of built-ins, sun room and formal living and dining rooms are pluses. The key that unlocks my heart on this one, though, is the original kitchen. I love it when the cupboards reach the ceiling. Of course, you’ll have to purchase an antique metal foot ladder to reach the contents, but that adds to the charm.
The home has a great quarter acre yard in the town of Clinton, a small burg of about 1,400 residents. Clinton County boasts gently rolling farmland, scenic mountains and miles of hiking trails to enjoy. Dale Hollow Lake, Lake Cumberland, Little South Fork River and the Cumberland River also offer plenty of recreation for the outdoor enthusiast.

202 West Ritter Street, Seven Mile, OH 45062
This Ohio Victorian fixer upper has a bargain basement price of $11,700. That’s an unheard of $6 a square foot! Built in 1900, the 3-bedroom, 2-bath home features a lovely front porch with original gingerbread, original interior doors and trim, some hardwood floors, a beautiful fireplace mantel and a spacious kitchen. The kitchen, in fact, remains relatively true to its original form with that great built-in cupboard and beadboard wainscoting. I love the two bathtubs, too.

209 Main St., Empire, OH 43926
Fireplace mantels in every room of this Ohio house under $50,000. Built in 1920, this five-bedroom, one-bath home has the white picket fence, rocking chair porch with window boxes and views of the foothills. Look at the unusual shape of the building and the graceful porch columns. The amazing interior woodwork is in great shape and there is a back staircase in addition to the main staircase. My husband can’t resist a back staircase. Two kitchens, one a spacious original kitchen with wainscoting and doors with transoms, are pluses. In addition, a lovely second floor landing graces this home with large bedrooms shooting off. The owner says that the roof is just seven years old and the furnace is four.
