Wonderful Italianate in Historic Spa Village, Sharon Springs, NY, $31,900 ~ Fannie Mae Homepath Property
Sharon Springs is a gem of a historic spa village in beautiful Schoharie County. It’s recognized by both New York State’s Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places. We lived just down Route 20 from the village back in the late 1980s and would often take the kids to explore the then abandoned hotels and spa buildings. The village had seen better days back then. It seemed like a ghost town as we held our noses with delight at the odor of the sulfur spring at Magnesia Temple and had picnics on the grounds of the old hotel overlooking the gorgeous valley. A wonderful little museum is worth the visit, and a walking tour of the area is a must.
Since we’ve moved out of the area, the village has been undergoing a continuing revitalization, including this wonderful Italianate. I remember the home. It’s located a few houses off of Route 20, right before the curvy hill up into downtown Sharon Springs.
“Revive the world of old in historic Sharon Springs with pocket doors, high decorative ceilings, and wood floors. Large home made for entertaining with large dining room and eat in kitchen. Large living room and parlor off it. 1st floor bedroom or den. Nice lot with deck off the kitchen for the summer months. This is a Fannie Mae homepath property.” As per the realtor.
