Per homegrowniowan.com four homes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are FREE. The homes are scheduled to be demolished to make room for a tennis facility unless they are moved from the property.
The Cedar Rapids Country Club will raze the houses at numbers at 418, 424, 430 and 444 Fairway Terrace SE.
A fifth house (shown below), at 359 27th St. Drive SE, has already been scheduled for demolition.
Update: Cedar Rapids Country Club reported last week (10/14/2022) that they are still working with Save CR Heritage to save these historic homes from demolition.
The homes are lovely in excellent condition, most are currently occupied, and all were constructed between 1938 and 1940.
430 Fairway Terrace SE
Number 430 features a brick and clapboard exterior, stunning staircase, fireplace with flanking bookcases, a sunroom and original kitchen cabinets.

Save CR Heritage board members are open to providing advice on house moving, and more resources are here. More than 100,000 structures are moved every year, but it can be costly. The cost for obtaining permits, moving a home, building a new foundation, moving utility wires and tree trimming can rack up to $100,000, and sometimes more. If costs can be kept to the $100K mark, each of these wonderful homes might be well worth the effort.

To move 4 houses would cost close to a million, plus the cost of buying g the land, building foundations, looking up complete electrical and plumbing to them.
As much as I would like to save a really cool old house or 4 from an early demise, costs involved are so prohibitive, that unless you are saving a national monument and can get a grant to preserve the building, the average Joe can’t shoulder this kind of cost.
