OHU50K NOTES
This once-beautiful fixer upper is located on a corner lot in a neighborhood of lovely older homes in the Erie Canal village of Lyons, NY. After the canal was built in the 1820s, it canal brought new roads, buildings, high wages and successful businesses to Lyons. That is why you will find some architectural gems in town.
The exterior details on this house are extraordinary! The interior has been partially gutted, but the molding, pocket doors, window paneling, wainscoting and other details are still intact.
I have included two old plat maps for Lyons below. According to the earlier 1874 plat map, the property was owned by a J. Rogers, but no house was on that corner of the lot. That would make the 1860 build date suspect. The 1904 plat map has the house but no name.

Glad it was saved but…. The grey, white and black has to go! It’s blah! it’s lifeless and it’s been going on too long. We have one road near us and every single house on it is grey, black and white. It’s going to be a very dull world folks

I love it. Normally, I don’t like painting woodwork, but in this case, I think it supports a clean look. I love that they painted the walls gray throughout. Again, don’t normally like a gray scheme but I think it works here in drawing all the rooms together as a connected whole. I love the two-tone gray-blue exterior. I’m really happy to see an old gem restored to new life. I love the tile work in the shower.
