OHU50K NOTES

It is not often we find a house, fixer upper or not, in Connecticut under our price constraints, but here is a cottage built in 1875. Set on a hill in the city of Enfield (pop. 44,654), the home needs significant interior cosmetic work, but has the potential to be an adorable cottage. The front facade is adorable. Note the eyebrow windows over the porch and the porch detailing.

Enfield

Enfield lies on the Massachusetts border. From the 1830s to 1910s, the town was known for gunpowder manufacturing. In fact, in the 1989 film Glory, about an all-black regiment in the US Civil War, the words Enfield, CT, can be seen printed on the sides of gunpowder boxes.

Per Wikipedia:

Over 60 people died in explosions during the years when gunpowder was manufactured there. The mill blew up several times, but was set up so that if one building blew up, the rest would not follow in a chain reaction. The ruins of these buildings and the dams are open to the public. It is also now home to baseball fields and hiking trails.

Perhaps the original owner of this cottage worked at the Hazard Gunpowder Company in Enfield.

REALTOR COMMENTS

Cash Investors take note of this older single family fixer upper home in need of Rehab. Home is connected to city water, sewer, and natural gas. Electrical, boiler, and hot water heater have been updated. Blown in insulation has also been added. Cosmetically the home needs to be renovated. Home is set up on a hill and parking is tight down on High Street. Financing is not an option. Owners are looking for a cash buyer.
