The home sits on a corner lot opposite the beautiful Highlander Academy (see below). Known as the McRae House, James Arthur McRae (1888-1950) and his wife Lena lived here for decades. James served in WWI and later became an office manager for the lumber mill. The house was worth $5,000 in 1930.

This is one of the oldest houses in town and was originally built in 1895 by a local attorney. At that time, Red Spring’s sweet, iron-rich mineral springs were lauded for their beneficial qualities and many came from far and wide to the town’s spa and resort to partake of the health-giving waters.
