Family History

This was the home of Jefferson Davis Laughlin Sr (1845-1921) and his wife Anne Laurie Carraway Laughlin. Mr. Laughlin was a clerk. He was 24 years older than his wife, but the couple had two children together, Flora and Jeff, before Mr. Laughlin passed way in 1921. The family, which also consisted of Fannie Carraway, Annie’s sister, and Emma Carraway, Annie’s mother, continued to live in the home. In all, the Laughlin/Carraway family lived in this home for more than six decades, right up until Annie’s death in 1960.

Below is the obituary for Annie’s mother, Emma. Emma was a seamstress who became a widow before she was 50. She lived in Vicksburg for her whole life except for a brief period during the siege of Vicksburg during the US Civil War.
