Sold – Under $100K Sunday – c.1890 Fixer Upper For Sale in Rutland, VT $100K
OHU50K Notes $100,000 Sold
I am sure the original owners of the home, the Mangan family, would be dismayed to see their old home is such a fixer upper. On the bright side, many of the mechanicals have already been updated, and a few original elements are still intact.

6 bedroom 2 bath fixer upper home that could be either a large single family or a two unit multi family. Currently, the home is open as one unit. Add two doors and it will be fully functional as a multi-family unit. House built in 1890 that will practically feel like new construction inside once work is completed. Current owner purchased this property as a foreclosure but has run out of time to finish it. Extensive work has been completed including new heating system, electrical, baths, kitchen cabinets and countertops, and some new sheetrock.
Each floor has 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, living room, dining room, and laundry room. Combine the four smaller bedrooms to make two larger bedrooms and then have a 4 bedroom rather than a 6 bedroom home – very easy to do. Ideal for a large family or roommates with separate spaces. Perfect for an adult child or parents to have their own space and be close, yet not too close. Or, conduct a home business on the first floor while living on the second. One should be able to live in one side and have all or almost all expenses paid by the second unit – so many options!
Very little work to complete. Property has a slate roof, four parking spaces, two porches, a very usable basement, and a walk up attic for storage. Convenient location just 1/3 mile walk to downtown shops and restaurants, 1.7 miles to Rutland Hospital, 12 miles to Castleton University, and 15 miles to world class skiing at Killington! – Per Realtor

Family History
The Mangan family certainly needed a six-bedroom home. Thomas and Mary had 10 children ranging in age from 25 to one-years-old; Augustine, John, Mary, Bernard, Alice, Raymond, Francis, Robert, Rose, Ilene. Both Thomas and Augustine were locomotive engineers, (Thomas for 56 years), John was a motorman, daughter Mary a dressmaker, Bernard a plumber and Alice a nun.

Needs work. I never saw a witches bend before. It must have been a beautiful house in it’s day.
