Sold – Circa Pre-1880 Handyman Special in Hannibal, MO $45K
OHU50K Notes $45,000 Sold on 11/1/22
The realtor’s build date of 1890 is off for this four bedroom, two bath handyman special. The home shows up on the 1885 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map, and in the 1880 US Census. Back then the brick beauty was situated opposite the ice house and across the street from the Tabernacle and Hall’s Ice Skating Rink, all of which are no longer there.
Located in the Central Park Historic District, the home’s front porch, stone wall, front door and iron fencing are all from times past, but the interior does not reflect Mark Twain’s Hannibal, whose boyhood home is a short walk around the corner.

Family History
Street addresses have changed since the turn of the century, but from what I can gather, the home was originally owned by the Wachendorfer family. H. Wachendorfer was a blacksmith. He and his wife Annie, who was from Ireland, lived here with their children Charles, Mannie and Peter.
By 1920, it was owned by the oldest son Charles Wachendorfer and his wife Carrie. The couple had one son, Charles, Jr. Charles Senior was a conductor for the railroad.
