Family History
Built in 1860 for Beny Adams, a planter originally from Tennessee, this old farmhouse is known as the Adams-Kirven House. Beny lived in the home with his second (and much younger) wife, Jennette, along with his two sons, Thomas and Doc. Beny’s first wife, Nancy, had died about five years earlier when she was in her 40s. Beny’s youngest son lived in the home briefly before enlisting in 1861 at the age of 17 in the 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
After the death of Beny, his son, Thomas, inherited the farm.
