Family History

This was the home of John D. Haskell (1841-1924). He married Florence Dyer (1859-1900) in 1883, and the couple raised their children in this home, Benjamin, Rachel and John, and two others. John was born in Maine, was a farmer, and he served in the Civil War in the 11th Infantry.

Florence’s father was a sea captain. When she was 12, both her parents died in a tidal wave at Callao, South America, in 1868. She and her brother survived, but sadly Florence passed away at age 40 a week after giving birth to her fifth child.
