Save This Old c.1929 Arkansas Airplane Bungalow For Sale Under $33K
$60,000 Reduced to $32,500
Arkansas airplane bungalow for sale.
We don’t often see airplane bungalows under our price constraints. Despite this home’s condition and location, we have to give it points for its hardwood floors, fireplace, and coffered ceiling. A carriage house sits on the lot, too.
Airplane bungalows, born out of the Arts and Crafts Movement, date from the early 20th century. They resemble Craftsman bungalows, but the airplane bungalow features a “pop up” second floor room or two, similar to a cockpit of an airplane that affords panoramic views.
At the time these homes were being built, airplanes often had a cockpit atop the fuselage. Since it resembled a cockpit, they began calling these Airplane Bungalows.
Another theory of the name airplane bungalow predates flying. Some suggest that the second-story open windows created a pleasant draft in the summer months from which flowed a plane of air throughout the house.

Homes once attracting the cream of Pine Bluff society and heralded as the most exclusive in the state, have devolved into dilapidated, tumbledown dwellings earmarked for the wrecking ball by the city’s Urban Renewal program.
