Family History
Situated in the Delaware Ridgecrest area, this mansion was built in the 1920’s by Akron’s Kendig family. Karl Kendig (1871-1937) began his career as a sales manager for Werner Publishing Company. He later became advertising manager and assistant treasure for Whitman & Barnes Mfg. Co, a manufacturer of steel tools, then executive VP for the National Tool Company. Mr. Kendig lived in the home with his wife, Evalyn, children, Margaret, David, FRances, Harriet, and Grace. Evalyn loved to entertain in the home and was a real socialite. Karl died suddenly in the home at age 66.
The property has had only three owners including B.F. Goodrich CEO John Lynn Collyer, who was CEO thru the 1940s and 1950s. The property was then acquired by the Briggs family in 1973.
