This is known as the Martin C. Eckbohm House and Stable. Eckbohm (1847-1948) was born in Germany. He was mayor of Warsaw for eight terms between 1900 and 1912. He was also a leading merchant in town since establishing his combination grocery, hardware and farm machinery store in 1867. He married Mary Schafer in 1869 and had two children, Henry and Clara.

Mary died in 1896 at age 45 and just a few years after the construction of the grand home. Martin continued to live in the home with his adult daughter Clara until  about 1905 when she married.  He then sold the house and moved in with Clara and her husband to their home on Polk Street.
