$134,999
The historic Spencer-Shreve Mississippi home, recognized on the National Register for its connection to the Church Street District, was constructed around 1825 (between 1825 and 1830) in the elegant Federal style. Its charming wide front veranda showcases the original four neoclassical columns and transoms above the door.

Realtor Comments
The home was built during the later part of the Antebellum period and it was home to the Shreve Family through much of the post-Civil War era. The front facing gabled portion of the house has four large rooms and galleries on the front and back with dual parlor entrances. The L shaped portion of the house was added in 1840 and includes a large room that exhibits Greek Revival inspired woodwork. This house has a unique floor plan for its time and has a more modern flow than traditional center hall homes built during that period. The Spencer-Shreve House still needs some renovation to be complete but features lovely, original cypress wide plank floors plus many decorative elements, moldings and mantels that were restored from the local Sillers House. The home also has modern conveniences such as an HVAC system, updated plumbing and a period style fence built to encircle the property.

“Horatio Nelson Spencer loaned $8000 in 1859 to complete the building of the Port Gibson First Presbyterian Church, a debt he forgave in his will. He also paid for the new bell, just 48 pounds lighter than the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. It was first rung on Oct 10, 1860. His descendants still live today, many in Texas.” per Find-a-Grave
