Family History
It seems this was a rental home for much of the 1930s and 1940s. Perhaps the most prominent tenant was Dr. George W. Slagle (1909-1991).
Per Find-A-grave “His family consists of five successive generations of physicians. As a youngster, he routinely accompanied his father on his rounds of house calls, in addition to daily exposure to the practice of medicine. Finishing his elementary and secondary education in Dayton OH, he was accepted in 1926 to the University of Michigan, where he earned his letters in baseball, his team winning the Big 10 championship in 1928, and in basketball with a team championship in 1929.
A member of the Sigma Chi and Phi Rho Sigma fraternities, he served as president of the Galens in 1932 and 1933. He received hi bachelor’s degree in Medicine in 1931 and his master’s in 1933. He did his internship at The Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton and his residency in internal medicine in the Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital, completed in 1937. His private practice in Battle Creek was interrupted by WWII; he was called to active duty in January 1942, to serve as a medical officer. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander; he served at Parris Island SC and aboard the USS Astoria in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of War, earning six major battle stars among other decorations. He returned to Battle Creek in January 1946 and practiced medicine until his retirement in 1984. In 1932 he married the former Elinor Eggleston, who passed away in 1965. The couple brought their second daughter, Elinor Jane, as a newborn home from the hospital to this house in 1937.

Please see the last line in your listing, a quote of the obituary on Find-a-Grave. There is a typo that says they “bought their daughter”, which surely was meant to say “brought”! It was otherwise such a lovely writeup, and a sweet house.
