Built around 186o, the house was constructed by Leroy and Courtney Newton. The structure features two-stories made of rubble-filled concrete, covered in stucco. It includes a hipped roof topped by an octagonal wooden cupola.The construction was likely inspired by Orson Squire Fowler’s 1848 book, The Octagon House: A Home for All, which promoted octagonal homes as more efficient, healthier, and cost-effective.

Later History and Use

Museum: For several years, the building served as the Gladding International Sport Fishing Museum, highlighting the local history of the Gladding Corporation factory.
Private Residence: It has since returned to being a private residence and is sometimes operated as The Octagon Guest House.
Historic Designation: The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 3, 1982.
