History

The Quakers (or Friends) were early settlers in Richmond, Indiana. In 1809, they established the Whitewater Monthly Meeting, which became the oldest Quaker congregation in Indiana.ย
As the town grew, the Quakers built a massive brick meeting house in the 1820s to host their large regional gatherings. By the 1870s, the neighborhood’s demographics changed, and the congregation downsized. To better fit their smaller size, they built the current 1878 meeting house.
