Family History

This was the home of the Megchelson sisters. The six sisters, Gertrude, Nancy, Cornelia, Myrtle, Mary and Kate were born into a family of at least 10 children to a successful farmer.  Gertrude was born in the 1860s and died in the 1930s. Unusual for women of that era, Gertrude was the proprietor of a dry good store for decades, with Nancy and Cornelia as partners. Myrtle was a teacher, Kate ran the household, and Mary married and moved out in  in 1917.
