Seller Description

Amos is a 2 berth, 40ft Narrowboat, built in 1986 by Hancock & Lane and fitted out by Amwood Marina. Her current long term owner has lived aboard full time for the past 10 years and Amos offers great interior space thanks to her Traditional layout.

Moving towards the stern along a corridor on the starboard side, portholes allow sufficient light and added privacy. Her smart bathroom features a cassette toilet although we understand the boat previously had a pump out toilet which could potentially be reinstated. There is a good sized shower for this size of boat and wash basin.

The double bedroom is in the rear of the boat, again with excellent storage including beneath the bed. The bedroom also features a delightful skylight and, at the stern, there is access to the engine area and rear deck.

  • Option to take over her prized fully residential, transferable mooring at Poplar Marina, Canary Wharf.

The Pros

  • Unmatched Career & Industry Opportunities: London is Europe’s primary financial, tech, creative, and commercial hub. It provides unparalleled networking, rapid career progression, and higher top-tier earning potential compared to the rest of the UK.

  • World-Class Public Transit & Global Connectivity: The extensive transport network—comprising the Underground (Tube), Overground, Elizabeth Line, red buses, and National Rail—makes living car-free seamless.Additionally, six international airports (including Heathrow and Gatwick) and Eurostar trains from St Pancras offer unmatched access to international travel.

  • Vibrant Culture, Food, & Diversity: London is a multicultural mosaic where over 300 languages are spoken. You get immediate access to world-class free museums and galleries (like the British Museum and Tate Modern), West End theater, global dining across every price point, and endless nightlife.

  • Abundant Green Spaces: Despite its dense urban footprint, roughly 47% of London is green space. Expansive Royal Parks like Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Greenwich, and Richmond Park offer vast natural escapes right in the middle of the city.

  • Universal Healthcare Access: As a resident, you have access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) for primary and emergency medical care, alongside access to world-leading private specialist hospitals.

The Cons

  • Extremely High Cost of Living & Housing: Rent and property prices are amongst the highest globally. Finding affordable housing usually requires sharing a flat with housemates, settling for very compact square footage, or living farther out in Outer London boroughs.

  • The “London Grind” & Fast Pace: Life moves quickly, and long work hours combined with lengthy commutes can lead to burnout. It can be a challenging city to slow down in or build quiet routines.

  • Weather & Overcast Winters: While summers can be pleasant, London experiences long, dark, damp winter months with limited daylight (sunset around 3:30–4:00 PM in mid-winter) and frequent grey, overcast skies.

  • Crowds, Tourists, & Congestion: Major central areas, transit hubs, and popular boroughs are constantly crowded with locals and millions of annual tourists, leading to packed trains during rush hour and long wait times at popular spots.

  • NHS Delays & System Pressure: While emergency and primary care are accessible, non-urgent specialist referrals, elective procedures, and routine GP appointments often face significant waiting lists.
