OHU50K NOTES
There is just something about an old converted one room schoolhouse that speaks to us. This is a for sale by owner schoolhouse that sits on more than 2.5 acres. It’s a fixer upper, but livable.
FYI
I could not find any information about the school’s history, but I did find another old schoolhouse in Owningsville that sold last year. It was on the market for $42,000 with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath on half an acre. I have included photos of it below for inspiration on what could be done with today’s featured schoolhouse.
Town History
In 1795, Colonel Thomas Dye Owings was sent by his father from Maryland to the Owingsville area of Kentucky to manage some of the first iron furnaces in the area. By 1810, Owings had become very successful with huge amounts of wealth and land holdings. Colonel Richard H. Menefee also owned a significant amount of land in the area.
To determine whose name the community would take, the two very competitive men wagered that the man who constructed the best home the fastest would be the namesake of the town. Owings won the contest with his $60,000 home, a vast sum back then. Owingsville was then founded in 1811.

REALTOR COMMENTS
House built in the 1900s as a one room schoolhouse and later transformed into a 2 to 3 bedroom home. The property is in two tracts of land with a combined acreage of 2 1/2 to 3 acres. Yard is gently rolling to flat. Decent fencing. Has mature trees. Country living with privacy. House needs TLC. Selling as a fixer upper but livable. Selling as is where is. Cheaper than rent!
