OHU50K NOTES

Save this old house. In celebration of National Preservation Month, we feature this c.1910 fixer upper still on the market. Located on a corner lot, the c.1910 fixer upper offers a broad front porch, hardwood floors, French doors, fireplaces, built-ins, clawfoot tubs…the list goes on.

FYI

During the Civil War, the town became a ghost town. Most of its population abandoned it when Union troops encroached. I guess they knew what was coming, because General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick and his Union forces burnt the city to the ground in 1865, leaving only one mill standing.

In 1867, the town started to make a comeback. Goodyear, textile mills and iron works sprang up. Goodyear even built a large residential section of town for mill workers, now known as the Goodyear Village.

Although Main Street Cedartown is listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its 1890’s architecture, during the 1970s, many buildings were demolished, including churches, train stations, a high school and a theater.
