317 W Sheridan Rd, Petersburg, IL 62675 $79,900 ~ Off Market
OHU50K NOTES
This beautiful Queen Anne handyman special sits on a large corner lot with stone walls and flowering beds in the low-crime neighborhood of historic Petersburg, Illinois (pop. 2,299).
Petersburg
Petersburg is the only town known to have been surveyed and platted by Abraham Lincoln. The historic district includes most of the town, with the earliest houses dating from 1826 to the mid-1840’s in a highly simplified Federal style. Some Greek Revivals from mid-century and a concentration of Queen Anne dating to the 1880’s and ’90’s, including our featured home today, also exist. In terms of quality and quantity, however, the district is dominated by a number of substantial Italianate houses – several turreted -constructed from 1865-1876.
House History
I was only able to trace the house back to the 1940 US Census which lists Herman Lebrugge, his wife Mary, and children Mary, Betty, Robert and Barbara Lee as the residents. Herman was the owner of a grocery store, and his daughter Mary worked as a typist in the finance department there.
