c.1920 Mill Worker’s Home For Sale in High Point, NC $45K
OHU50K NOTES
This tiny house is part of the mill worker homes in the planned village built by Highland Cotton Textile Mills. The houses on Culler Place were built in 1914, the first homes to be constructed in Highland Cotton Mill Village. Although many of the trees have died, the mill had planted rows of trees along each street, and homes had gardens in the rear yards as well as outhouses. The repetitiveness of the homes creates an orderly character to the historic district, but there were several different variations of the design. Our featured home is the B-1 design, a cross gable roof home, a D.A. Tompkins “Three-Room Gable House” design. The B-1 plan originally had three rooms, a brick-pier foundation, clapboard siding and a roof of pressed metal shingles. A single interior chimney was placed at the intersection of the two wings.
Changes to #1617 Culler Place include vinyl siding, replacement six-over-six sash windows and a replacement front door. The cottage retains it original front porch posts and sawn brackets.
