This beautiful home was owned by John Spotts, a local businessman who owned a Decatur cigar shop and billiards hall. He lived here in the late 1910s until his death in 1937.  Also, residing in the home was John’s wife Elizabeth Cary Spotts, his father-in-law and sister-in-law. Elizabeth remained in the home until her death in 1957. Apparently, local hoods knew that Elizabeth lived alone  in the large house in the 1950s, because in 1951 a newspaper article stated that her home was ransacked and $4 was stolen.
