History

Built around 1805, this structure operated as the Cecil Hotel for many years, well into the late 1800s. Subsequently, the name changed to the Valentine B. Algard Hotel.
It was the home of Robert Gibson beginning at the turn-of-the-century. Robert (1852-1943) was a blacksmith. He married Hannah Chapman (1858-1944) in 1881, and the couple lived in the home with their children Price, Beulah and Ella. Ella became an elementary school teacher.
