This schoolhouse for sale is actually 12 miles northeast of Lisbon, a town located in St. Lawrence County. Lisbon has a population of around 4,000 people. It is situated in the northern part of the state, close to the Canadian border. Lisbon is part of the Ogdensburg-Massena metropolitan area.

History

While I could not find the history of this particular schoolhouse, a similar schoolhouse in St. Lawrence county was built in 1824 in Morristown. It, too, was a one-room, gable-roofed, limestone, rectangular building. It was used until 1877, was used as a village hall from 1899 to 1910, then renovated as a museum in 1976. Since the buildings were constructed in the same region and time period, we might assume they were built by the same builder.
