History
This was the home of Isabella Caswell (1855-1929) a widow whose husband died in 1898 at the age of 52. She lived in the home with her children, Angus, Catherine, Mayme and Alfred as well as her elderly mother. In 1926 Mayme put an ad in the newspaper for her lost collie, Pal. Born in Inverness, Scotland, Isabelle lived in the home from the 1890s until 1929, when she died in the home.
“Mrs. Isabelle Caswell, 74, widow of Richard Caswell, died today at her home, 627 North Webster Street. Isabelle McIntyre was born August 15, 1855, in Inverness, Scotland, and that same year her parents came to America. The family settle din Kempville, Ontario, and in 1874, she came to Saginaw to make her home with her brother, the late Angus McIntyre. She was married April 29, 1881, to Mr. Caswell, who died in 1898. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, and of the Altar Society. Surviving are three children, Alfred James Caswell, Mrs. Fred Ruckert; and Miss Mayme Caswell, Saginaw; and one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Stoddard, Pulaski, NY; and Mrs. Mary Kennedy, Saginaw.
The funeral will take place at 8:30 a.m. Monday at her home, and at 9 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church. Rev. Fr. Albert A. Kebren will officiate, and burial will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.”
