An obituary from Findagrave.com about one of the Talcottville Grange members is pretty interesting.
Augustus Elexander Bourgeois died at 80 from a stroke at home in Talcottville.
His parents came from France 86 years ago. They came to Boonville by train in 1859. They walked to Lowville and then to Croghan, where they established a home.
In his younger years, Augustus conducted logging jobs in the vicinity of Croghan. For a few years the family lived in Carthage and for the last 52 years he engaged in farming near Talcottville.
He served as Justice of the Peace in the Town of Leyden for several years. He was a member of St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden and was also a member of the Talcottville Grange. He was a successful farmer and was well known throughout Northern New York.
On June 19, 1886, he married Lucy Rose Potter of Natural
Bridge, the ceremony taking place at St. James Church, Carthage. Mrs. Bourgeois died several years ago.He was the father of 18 children, 14 of whom are still living. One daughter, Mrs. Loretta Ford died at Constableville a week ago today.
Surviving are these children: George, Ava; Willard and Carl, Boonville; Vincent, at home; Floyd, Camden; Stanley, Greig; Robert, Utica; Mrs. Florence Iseneker and Mrs. Walter Radell, Boonville; Mrs. Flossie Pace, Rochester; Misses Genevieve and Evelyn Bourgeois, Utica; Mrs. Lorena Cavanaugh, Constableville; and Mrs. Gladys Croniser, Locust Grove.
