OHU50K NOTES

You may recall this house. Before its new look, OHU50K featured it on December, 29, 2020. It was a “for sale by owner” then. What a difference paint and staging make! Surprisingly, work was done, but price was reduced, and the home was re-listed for $49,900 in January 2021. For some reason it did not budge, was taken off the market but is now back on for the same price of $49,900. See the original listing near the bottom of the page.

History

This fixer upper is unique for its large dormers and central chimney. The home was built in 1877 by Adam Hirsch as a wedding gift to his daughter, Louisa (1857-1922), and her husband, L.W. Study (1849-1885). Adam was a Hessian immigrant who was a successful cabinet maker and real estate investor. In 1870, his real estate holdings were valued at $20,000, a tidy sum for those days. He and his wife Mary had five children, so I am wondering if Adam gifted each of his kids a house.

.

Louisa’s husband was an attorney with an office in downtown Winchester. They lived in this house with their two sons Carl and George. Sadly, Louisa was left a widow at the age 28 with two little boys after her attorney husband died at the young age of 36.

The owner purchased this home in November 2020 for $7,000, so perhaps there is some wiggle room with the price.
