OHU50K NOTES
This brick home is move-in ready, but a buyer may want to make cosmetic updates while living in the home. Frankly, I would keep the vintage steel kitchen cabinetry, although I realize that it is not of the home’s period and not of everyone’s taste. A welcoming front porch, front door with transom, high ceilings and hardwood floors grace the home.
Town History
The name Nevada for a town in Missouri intrigued me, so I did a bit of research. Apparently, the town was originally named and platted as Hog Eye in 1855. The name (thankfully) was later changed to Nevada by circuit and county clerk DeWitt C. Hunter, after Nevada City, California, where Hunter had been a gold miner.
Family History
Although the home was built in 1880, I was only able to trace its family history back to 1930. According to the US Census of that year, Martin Robertson, a locomotive fireman, and his wife Edith, owned the home. It was worth $2,500 in 1930. The Robertson family, including children Helen and Clovis, enjoyed owning a radio set.
