Family History

In the 1930s and 1940s, this was the home of Fred S. “Speedy” Augustine (1889-1976) and his wife Ruth Burchard Augustine (1895-1986). They raised their children, Beatrice and Dolores in the home.

Mr. Augustine was born in Germany, son of William and Mary Augustine. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, the Modern Woodmen of America and had played on several Decatur baseball teams, and a minor league team in Chicago. He was a wood craftsman at Decatur Coffin Co. for 30 years and then an orderly at Wabash Hospital. – Per Find-A-Grave
