OHU50K NOTES

This c.1890 fixer upper Gothic Revival on the Delmarva Peninsula has those steep gables that I love that shoot up to the heavens. Sixty feet away is the Christ Methodist Protestant Cemetery, where entities other than gables may also be shooting up to the heavens.

For FindaGrave enthusiasts, living near a cemetery is a plus. In fact, I cried when we were outbid on a home on the Delmarva that had its own family burial plot on the property. We did have the gravestone of 1800’s Elizabeth Kniskern on our New York 15-acre farmette. The farmer next door threw it over the fence, though, so Elizabeth wasn’t actually buried on our land.

The main problem with the Laurel fixer upper is that it is very close to the road. But then again, it is only a 45-minute drive to Bethany Beach and a 55-minute drive to Rehoboth Beach. Historic Lewes is just 50 minutes away, too. Just outside of Lewes is Cape Henlopen State Park. When it reopens after COVID, it is a great place for a day trip or to camp. Our family often borrowed bicycles at the park and took beautiful bike rides together. The borrow-the-bike- program is free!

For those who are strictly interested in homes with acreage, we have a new site up and running. Please “like” our Facebook page Country Life Dreams.
