Family History
This was the home of Caroline Markley Kolb (1846-1902). Caroline’s husband, John Kolb, passed away at the age of 35 in 1873. The couple had three young children at that point, Julia, Hattie and John, so Carolina did whatever she could to support the family. In 1890, she had amassed enough money to buy our featured house with cash. She then took in boarders, as as the children became adult, they helped support the household. After Caroline’s death in 1902, son John inherited the house. He was a moulder for the iron works and lived in the home with his wife Emma, and children, Mary, John and William. Mr. Kolb died in the home in 1931, and Emma died in the home in 1970.
