The home is located in the Lagrange neighborhood, a community originally settled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Along with the Old West End and Old Towne neighborhoods, Lagrange was settled by those seeking to live further from downtown. And if you are wondering what that massive brick structure is on view from the backyard of our featured cottage, it’s the Dr. John A. Wright House at 1822 Cherry St. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the brick Queen Anne Victorian, also known as the Harvey House, shares an entire city block with only two structures – its carriage house and an elementary school. The mansion exists virtually unaltered from when it was built in 1888.-1889 and remained in the same family until 1977.

The mansion was owned by Dr. Wright who had his small office next to the house, since demolished. He was the first to use a Roentgen x-ray machine in Toledo, but burns from his pioneering work eventually took his life in 1909. His daughter, Mrs. Vivian Harvey, took  the house over until her death in 1977.

When the Google Map street view was taken in 2019, the Dr. John A. Wright House was for sale or lease. I discovered it was sold on August 5, 2020 to Vistula Management Company for $265,000. Let’s hope they are a trusted steward of the grand home.
