OHU50K NOTES
This church for sale is located in the old coal mining town of Murray City, Ohio. The former Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1895, just four years after the town was incorporated. An early settler, John Murray Brown, purchased the area’s land to lay out the town, and in 1875 built a hotel for the local coal workers. At the time the church was constructed and well into the 20th century, Murray City was one of the largest coal towns in the U.S. with over 2,000 residents. Today, the population is 449.
As the population decreased, so did the congregation. The church joined the 6,000 to 10,000 churches that annually shutter their doors in America.
The second owners of the church had plans to make the church into an architectural salvage place, but those plans fell through. Take a look at the interesting items they collected.
