Family History

James Cannon
This was the home of James Riley Cannon (1861-1948), a machinist in a cotton mill. He lived in the home from 1905 to 1948 with his wife, Mary Lucietti
“Mollie” Thompson Cannon (1867-1944) and children, Achsah, Eva and Ruth. Two sons died in infancy.
Mollie Cannon

“Mrs. Mollie Thompson Cannon, wife of James R. Cannon, passed away suddenly this morning (Wednesday) after an illness of Pneumonia culminating in a heart attack.

Mrs. Cannon was born February 3, 1867, in Alabama, the daughter of Robert C. and Mary Jane Griffin Thompson. On October 21, 1891, she was married to James R. Cannon in Wesson, Miss., and two years ago, the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary of married life. Moving to McComb in the fall of 1917, they took up residence at 412 Fourth street and at that some home two years ago they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary of married life.

Mrs. Cannon was a devoted mother, splendid neighbor, loyal friend. Although declining health had kept her away from her church duties in recent years, she with her husband and children were lifelong and devoted members of the Baptist faith. During the last months of her life, she was tenderly ministered to by her family and friends and her going fills many hearts with sadness. Only a few days ago a letter written by a grandson in England expressed intense desire to once more see his dear grandmother, who had been a mother to him, too, as his little bed nestled next to her big bed during the days of his childhood.

Mr. and Mrs. Cannon were the parents fo five children, two boys, twins, dying in infancy, and one daughter, Achsah Vivia James dying in young womanhood.

Surviving, besides the sorrowing husband, are two daughters, Eva Nell Cannon Quin, and Miss Ruth Cannon; grand daughters, Marion James and Becky Ruth Quin, two grandsons, Corporal Julian A. James, mechanic in the Army Air Corps, England, Pfc. William R. James, U.S. Marines of San Diego, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Lewis, Pendleton, S.C. and many nephews and nieces.”
