The Wiley House, circa 1888, has been noted by the Peoria Historical Society for its place in the region’s history. The house was built for a local musician who gained fame for performing for Queen Victoria.  Lemon Hill Wiley, a Civil War veteran and band leader known for leading the band at President Garfield’s inauguration in 1881 and performing internationally. He was also manager for a number of years for the Grand Opera House in Peoria.  The notable figure is buried in Peoria’s Springdale Cemetery.
