Family History

Now a fixer upper, this Victorian-era house was once the proud home of German immigrants Charles and Mary Haack when they built it in 1903. Charles came to America in 1882, was naturalized, and married Mary Stoll in 1891. The couple raised two children here, Alvin and Leona. Charles supported his family as a carpenter/contractor, and when times got tough during the Great Depression, Mary sold tulips and flowering plants cultivated  from her backyard garden. Although the home looks far worse for wear from the time the Haacks lived here (1903 through the 1930s), it is heartwarming to realize that the pantry has the same cupboards that Mary stored her canned fruits and veggies.
